Welcome Letter

Dear Parents and Students,

I am thrilled to be working in the Lafayette School District with you and your student in a collaborative team.  This is my 6th year of teaching. I have taught fourth grade for 5 years and I'm excited to try something new, working with sixth graders!

Core class consists of  three subjects: Language Arts, Reading and History.  You will receive two official grades: a grade in Language Arts ( Reading and Writing class combined) and a grade in History.   We will continue to build on the workshop model in reading and writing.

Parents will receive more information about our wonderful Core program at Back to School Night, Thursday, September 14th. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me at shelms@lafusd.org

It is going to be a great year in Core with you.

Warmly,

Miss Helms

PTA Reflections Art Contest

We are launching PTA Reflections art contest!  Do you like to choreograph dance, take photographs, write poems/short stories, compose music, draw, paint, make sculptures, create computer graphics or produce film?  This year’s theme is Heroes Around Me. Please think about what characteristics reflect a hero? What do you value in a hero? What is the journey of becoming a hero?  It is an opportunity for students to have their work judged by local artists and move on to regional, state and national level.
