Welcome to 7th/8th grade Physical Education

I am thrilled to have you in my class this year! I am hoping we have an enjoyable time working out and participating in fun activities. Some things about this class -

Your physical education program is a combination of fitness, movement activities and team sports. Twice during the school year we will divide our classes into single gender programs (basketball and baseball/softball). Health education is also an integral part of pe; thus, you will be scheduled numerous times throughout the year to attend this portion. Remember you will be graded the same as if you were outside with me!

It is my goal to help you enjoy your physical education class. Because there is a lot of activity I will not see or hear all. You need to communicate with me. Report any issues with other team members or a clarification needed by me.

It's not the sport, it's the effort when playing it!

7th grade Health this month

STUDENTS WILL ATTEND NEXT WEEK OR THE WEEK AFTER (10/16 or 10/23)

7th Grade Parent Message:

In the following weeks 7th grade students will begin a health unit with Stanley’s Health Educator, Susan Schoenrock. The topic of this unit is alcohol, tobacco and other drug use prevention. Students will be provided with an opportunity to learn factual information regarding the physiological effects of tobacco and nicotine containing products, alcohol, and marijuana. Hopefully these lessons supplement information that you and your family have been discussing on the topic of drugs.

Many studies have shown that young people who have a clear understanding of what is expected of them and who are involved in family discussions are less likely to get into trouble with drugs.  This classroom discussion offers families an opportunity to discuss drugs, family rules and the consequences of breaking those rules.  Additional topics for discussion include how you want your child to handle getting into a car with someone they suspect may have been drinking and what you want them to do if they go to a party where drugs or alcohol are available.

In the following weeks 8th grade students will begin a health unit on the topic of prescription drug abuse. Students will learn facts and impacts of commonly misused prescription and Over-The- Counter drugs. Prescription medicines are now the most commonly abused drugs among 12 to 13 year olds.Hopefully these lessons supplement information that you and your family have been discussing on the topic of drugs.  Many studies have shown that young people who have a clear understanding of what is expected of them and who are involved in family discussions are less likely to get into trouble with drugs.

Sports do not build character, they reveal it.

Pe class consists of many activities but our class is only as good as the character of each classmate.
