Upcoming Events Information

May 2018

Attention all Opp Knocks Volunteers:  Wednesday, May 16, is the deadline to turn in Opp Knocks hours for credit; however, if you sign up for any of the following events, you will be given credit for your service.  Once you sign up, please email Mr. Mangold to let him know that you have committed to volunteering for the event(s) to ensure you get credit for your service.

  • LEIGH CREEKSIDE PARK CLEAN-UP (Sunday, May 20, 10am-1pm; Leigh Creekside Park Blvd and 4th St., Lafayette).  Help clean up and restore Leigh Creekside Park by cleaning up trash and pulling weeds and invasive plant species along our local creek.  Please email Mr. Mangold if you are planning to volunteer at the clean-up, and if you plan to volunteer for this event, you must print and fill out the linked waiver:

  • SEED Family Resource Day Helper (Saturday, May 19, Set-up: 11am-12pm, Clean-up: 3-4pm; Twin Canyon Girl Scout Camp, 4010 Springhill Rd., Lafayette).  SEED is a non-profit foundation, run by parents in the Lafayette Special Education community, whose mission is to provide support and resources to families and students with special and diverse learning needs, as well as training programs for educators who work with these children.  SEED needs volunteers to help set-up and clean-up its Family Resource Day, which will provide an opportunity for our community to get actual hands on experience to try out local resources that support families raising children with special needs.

For more information about the event, and to sign up, visit this link:

  • STANLEY ICE CREAM SOCIAL (Thursday, May 18, 5:30-7pm, during the International Concert and Open House; Stanley Middle School).  Help the PTA fundraise and serve ice cream during the Stanley International Concert and Open House.

  • LUNCH BUDDY PROGRAM (Rooms 205 and 206): Once a week (45min/0.75 hour every week) for the whole trimester (consistency is necessary). Bring a lunch and join the students in Mrs. Bertrand and Ms. Estrada's classes. Their students love to talk to their lunch buddies, attend campus clubs, draw, read, go outside and have fun. If you are interested in this program, please contact Mrs. Bertrand (Room 205).

  • LOST AND FOUND (Lost and Found; outside office): Every Thursday, two students may sign up to help sort and organize the Lost and Found with a parent volunteer.  Students should show up to the Lost and Found at lunch, after the 10-minute bell, and check in with the office if the parent volunteer isn't there.  Students will get 30 minutes of service time for each lunch they help. For more information, contact Mr. Mangold.

  • AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS: Visit the bulletin board in the hallway of the Gym or speak with Mrs. Anke to learn about opportunities to help out with after-school sports.

  • BALL BOX MONITOR: Help check in and out balls and sports equipment during lunchtime.  Have a friend join you, and you both get Opp. Knocks credit.  Email Mr. Mangold if you are interested.
