6th Grade Core

Changes to Sixth Grade Core

Dear Parents,

As we evolve our teaching towards the new Common Core standards, it is evident that our reading and language arts curriculum are becoming intricately interwoven.  When Stanley began the 6th Grade Core curriculum in 1993, writing and grammar were taught as more distinct entities from reading.

Almost 20 years later, the emphasis in the reading and writing curriculum has evolved towards developing deep understanding of text through both written expression and speaking.  Because the two subjects are so closely linked, we have decided to combine all assignments into a single subject called Core 6 Language Arts.

In School Loop, students and parents will see the Language Arts class shown as 2 periods with one grade.

If you have any questions about this change, please contact your child’s Core teacher directly.
